The Great Hunter

This work was made while Mr. Oscar was attending collage at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.  This sculpture had no home as it was too large, and had to be placed outside in the weather in 1979, and suffered deterioration to the elements.  Mr. Roy Corral was able to capture it before it was sent out to disappear forever.  Oscar had plastered his own face onto this sculpture, and took approximately two and a half months to complete the whole project while attending other classes.  Mr. Oscar had to use a ladder to complete this fine work.  It had to be placed outside in the weather, no longer to be seen in its original form.

This work was in honor of all the hunters, who place their lives to the elements every time they brave the wilderness, hunting and fishing for their families.  Here the hunter is surrounded by a bear, king salmon, seal, walrus, and an eagle coming out from his back.   "It is my wish that one day a project may come up that will enable me to finally show it a real home," said Oscar, "and yes, I'll plaster my face again, but a bit older than my college days."
