Walrus DancerMaterials: Fur, carved mask with driftwood, acrylic and watercolor, guinea hen feathers, reindeer hair, skin, fabric and wires. Yup'ik dancing has been a historical practice that celebrates life in the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta region. Dancing can be used to receive Native names, first dance, potluck festivals, and to even celebrate the first subsistence gathering, hunting or fish caught by children. The dancer is wearing a mask made by Oscar's Originals, representing a walrus dance. His dance fans are made of skin and feathers, that are waved through the air imitating the story being told within the song. The song refers to a walrus hunt that has ended successfully.
