![]() Wave DanceMaterials: Fur, reindeer hair dance fans and headress, skin, fabric, wires, and beads. Yup'ik dancing has been a historical practice that celebrates life in the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta region. Dancing can be used to receive Native names, first dance, potluck festivals, and to even celebrate the first subsistence gathering, hunting or fish caught by children. The dancer is holding a pair of reindeer hair dance fans, that are waved through the air imitating the story being told within the song. It is a story about a woman who saw a man from a distance waving at her, then soon finds out that he was actually waving at his wife just right behind her.
