Wind DanceMaterials: Fur, carved mask from driftwood, acrylic and watercolor, guinea hen feathers, reindeer hair, skin, fabric and wires. Yup'ik dancing has been a historical practice that celebrates life in the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta region. Dancing can be used to receive Native names, first dance, potluck festivals, and to even celebrate the first subsistence gathering, hunting or fish caught by children. The dancer is wearing a mask made by Oscar's Originals. His dance fans are made of skin and feathers. Waking up from his dream, he was waving his arms wildly at mosquitoes all around, but to find there were none in the midst of winter, and was simply creating wind with his arms.
